Our Story

Melani Zimmerman, Champagne & Cake's owner and lead designer, sold her first piece of art in second grade.  It was a drawing of a lion and netted her a whopping $2.  Since then, she has always been drawn (see what we did there?) to art, design, and color. 

 

Fast forward to adulthood where she began creating murals and faux finishes for clients.  She specialized in color, matching colors by eye, and naturally understanding the undertones of any given hue.

 

She then became fascinated with the idea of creating finite art; art that would only exist in a given moment, rather than settle into the backdrop of our busy lives. It was this fascination that brought her into the world of culinary artistry and baking. 

 

Creating beautiful works of art meant solely to commemorate life’s most precious milestones, while also delighting multiple senses with tastes, smells, and textures, she found to be the most rewarding of challenges. Not only do her cakes celebrate the beauty of the moment, they nourish the soul and she loves that her creations accentuate special events. 

 

The moment she stepped into this world of flavor, texture, and creativity, Melani flourished.  She absorbed all she could about the science of baking under the direction of an award-winning pastry chef and renowned cake decorator at multiple highly rated bakeries. She was taught the craft of marrying decadent flavors with striking design, all with sugar and butter as her medium.

 

Today, she proudly runs her own business which is focused on creating beautiful and delicious edible art for each of her clients' special events.
